Insurance Under 65

Insurance for individuals under 65 typically refers to health insurance coverage for individuals who have not yet reached the age of eligibility for Medicare, which is typically 65 years old in the United States. This type of insurance can be obtained through various avenues:

  • Employer-sponsored health insurance: Many employers offer health insurance benefits to their employees and their dependents. These plans may provide comprehensive coverage at group rates.

  • Individual health insurance plans: Individuals can purchase health insurance plans directly from insurance companies or through healthcare marketplaces (such as the Affordable Care Act exchanges in the United States). These plans offer coverage tailored to the individuals needs and can vary in terms of premiums, deductibles, and benefits.

  • Medicaid: Medicaid is a state and federally funded program that provides health insurance coverage to low-income individuals and families. Eligibility criteria vary by state, but Medicaid often covers a broad range of medical services at little to no cost for those who qualify.

  • Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP): CHIP provides low-cost health insurance coverage to children in families that earn too much income to qualify for Medicaid but cannot afford private insurance. Eligibility criteria vary by state.

  • COBRA: The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) allows individuals to continue their employer-sponsored health insurance coverage for a limited time after leaving a job, experiencing a reduction in work hours, or experiencing other qualifying events. However, COBRA coverage can be expensive because the individual is typically responsible for paying the entire premium. Insurance for individuals under 65 is essential for ensuring access to healthcare services and protecting against financial hardship due to medical expenses. It provides coverage for a wide range of healthcare needs, including doctor visits, hospitalizations, prescription medications, preventive care, and more.
